Steve runs his own very successful driver training business from St Ives in Cambridgeshire and can offer both new and not so new drivers a wealth of experience when it comes to driver training.
It is often said that ‘those who can, do, those who can’t, teach’. Steve is one of the few instructors who can both do and teach – and to a very high standard.
He is registered with the Driving Standards Agency as an Approved Driving Instructor at grade 5 (one of the highest) as well as a Pass Plus instructor and Fleet Trainer. At the advanced driving level Steve is a ROSPA approved tutor for their advanced driving test (the highest civilian driving test) and is the Group Training Officer for their Cambridgeshire branch. Steve himself passed the ROSPA test at the Gold grade, the highest. This is how ROSPA defines the Gold award:
This grade is recognised as the highest driving award available to the public. It will be awarded only to the polished systematic driver, who displays a complete understanding and appropriate application of the principles outlined in Roadcraft [The Police Driving Manual]. The candidate will display a confidence and ability throughout the whole test which leads the examiner to consider that, if given the opportunity the candidate has the potential with the basics already in place to do well on a police advanced course. The candidate’s performance must be consistent throughout the whole of the test and so any lapses may result in a lower grade. Awards of this grade must therefore be reserved for the very best drivers.
He currently holds the LGV C+E goods vehicle and motor-cycle licences. In the past Steve has also held licences enabling him to drive buses, coaches and taxis.
Steve also finds the time to be a member of the Driving Instructors’ Association and the Cambridge Association of Approved Driving Instructors.
